Gabe sank deeper into his coat. He was giving up on trying to pretend he didn't want to just hide. He was literally hiding now. Why was Mom still in high school? Why didn't Mom know who he was?
Just get to grandma, she'll make everything better. She always did. He patted his pockets for his phone but found it wasn't there. It must've been in his backpack, which was also gone for some reason.
He didn't ask anything else until they were close to the hospital. He was getting antsy and before he could stop himself he asked, "Why don't you smell like a wolf, Mom?"
